The Benefits of Redispersible Polymer Powder for Water Proof Mortar
RDP mainly plays a role in enhancing adhesion, flexibility and impermeability in waterproof mortar. The advantages in water proof mortar:
Enhanced Adhesion
- Strong Bonding: RDP improves the adhesion of waterproof mortar to various substrates, such as concrete, masonry, and other surfaces. This strong bond ensures that the mortar remains firmly attached, even under challenging conditions like moisture exposure.
Improved Flexibility and Crack Resistance
- Flexibility: RDP imparts flexibility to the mortar, allowing it to accommodate minor movements and deformations without cracking. This is particularly important in areas subject to temperature fluctuations or structural movements.
Enhanced Water Resistance
- Hydrophobic Properties: RDP increases the water resistance of the mortar by forming a protective film that prevents water penetration. This is crucial for applications in areas prone to water exposure, such as basements, bathrooms, and swimming pools.
Increased Durability
- Mechanical Strength: RDP improves the compressive and flexural strength of the mortar, resulting in a more durable and robust material that can withstand long-term use and wear.
Improved Workability
- Ease of Application: RDP enhances the workability of the mortar, making it easier to mix, apply, and spread. This improves the efficiency of the installation process and ensures a more uniform application.
Compatibility with Other Additives
- Formulation Flexibility: RDP is compatible with other additives commonly used in mortar formulations, allowing for the customization of the mix to meet specific performance requirements.

Application Principle:
-Film-forming enhancement: After coming into contact with water, it re-disperses into an emulsion. After drying, it forms a continuous film, filling the pores of the mortar and enhancing its density.
- Bonding improvement: Enhance the bonding force between mortar and the base surface (such as concrete, brick) as well as aggregates, and reduce hollowing.
- Flexibility enhancement: Reduce the elastic modulus, improve crack resistance, and adapt to minor deformations of the base layer.
- Anti-seepage optimization: Close the capillary pores, reduce the water penetration path, and enhance the waterproof performance.

Usage Method.
1.Dosage control:
The general dosage is 1% to 3% of the total amount of mortar (adjust according to the product manual). Excessive dosage may reduce the strength.
2.Proportion suggestions
- Cement: 42.5 grade ordinary Portland cement is preferred.
- Aggregate: Medium sand (particle size ≤2mm), mud content < 1%.
- Additives: It can be combined with water reducers and fibers (such as polypropylene fibers) to enhance the overall performance.
3. Key Points of construction
The base layer should be solid, clean and free of standing water. The construction temperature should be between 5 and 35 degrees Celsius.
When stirring, first mix the RDP with the dry material evenly, then add water and stir until there are no lumps. Let it stand for 5 minutes before use.
When constructing in layers, the next layer should be carried out only after the previous layer has initially set. The thickness should not exceed 20mm.
Precautions
- Moisture-proof storage: The RDP is prone to absorbing moisture and should be stored in a sealed container in a dry environment to prevent caking and failure.
- Compatibility: The performance of different brands of adhesive powder varies greatly. Compatibility tests (such as bonding strength and impermeability tests) should be conducted before use.
- Curing requirements: After construction, it needs to be kept moist for 3 to 7 days for curing. Avoid direct exposure to high temperatures or freezing at low temperatures.
RDP can improve the physical properties of mortar, making it a commonly used material for enhancing reliability in waterproofing projects. In practical applications, the model should be selected based on specific needs and the construction process should be strictly controlled.
